Welcome back to another Fashion Friday. This week we are sharing ways to mix patterns and prints.
I have to admit that I’m not very adventurous when it comes to mixing patterns. I tend to be boring and safe when it comes to fashion. To be honest, I wear mostly t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts on the weekends and plain sweaters to work.
The easiest way for me to incorporate more patterns has been with scarves, tanks, and ballet flats. This shirt is from Ann Taylor Loft and I actually love the stripes. My friend talked me into buying it and I’m so glad I did. I paired it with this navy scarf that I found at Target. The dots are actually small gold studs.
Here are some of my tips for easily mixing patterns and prints:
Tank: Delias / Sweater: The Nautical Company / Scarf: Aerie
Wear a patterned tank under a sweater – polka dots and stripes are easy to pair together. Also, add a floral scarf to a striped or polka dot sweater. I love the idea of pairing a striped sweater with a polka dot tank underneath and/or a print scarf. But can you tell I still have to have things match.Scarf / Ballet Flats / Vest / Sweater
I also love the idea of breaking up patterns with a vest. I’m a little obsessed with puffer vests. I have one in black, navy, and purple and I really want a pink one. Sometimes I feel more comfortable mixing textures with a pattern so I will wear something solid but the texture gives it a design. I’ve also been wearing my animal print flats as a neutral more and I’m loving them. I’ve found that they pretty much match every outfit I wear.
I’m working hard to step out of my comfort zone and wear more patterns and prints. I really need to add some excitement to my wardrobe!
What’s your favorite way to mix patterns and prints? Are you comfortable doing this or do you need to match everything like me?
Have a great weekend!
