Superheroes don’t wear capes.  The superheroes we encounter on a daily basis wear dog tags.  Living in a military town means that there are jets constantly flying over our house, you can’t go to any store without seeing a military service member and most of our neighbors serve in the military – including my wonderful hubby.

And, we are proud to shop at Walmart because of their major commitment to hire veterans. Did you know that Walmart has hired more than 194,000 veterans and promoted more than 28,000 to roles of greater responsibility nationwide since 2013?  How awesome is that?!

Veterans Welcome Home Commitment

This is all part of the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment that was started on Memorial Day 2013.  The Veterans Welcome Home Commitment guarantees a job to any eligible, honorably discharged U.S. veteran who has separated from active duty since Memorial Day 2013.

More than 1,300 new veterans and their families return to civilian life every day according to the Department of Defense. The Veterans Welcome Home Commitment helps veterans find career opportunities at Walmart and aims to ease the difficult transition from active duty to civilian life.  In Virginia alone, Walmart has hired 6,247 since launching the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment.  The company is working to hire 250,000 veterans by the end of 2020 and is more than three quarters of the way there.

Veteran EDGE

Walmart is dedicated to helping ALL veterans find careers – not just with their own company, but throughout the veteran’s entire career journeys.

In fact, Walmart recently co-sponsored Veteran EDGE, a first-of-its-kind, three-day conference and training event dedicated to veteran-owned businesses.

Through a partnership with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University, Veteran EDGE was held Feb. 16-18 in Austin, Texas to gather veteran and military spouse small business owners from around the country to network and share the latest opportunities, best practices and available resources for their growing companies.

Thank you Walmart for your commitment to help our Veterans!

My husband will be retiring in three years and it’s hard for him to even think about his career after the Navy. It’s comforting to know that Walmart is here to help him and all of our veterans.  For more information about Walmart’s Veterans Welcome Home Commitment and overall support to veterans, service members and military families, visit www.walmartcareerswithamission.com
