We have a laundry closet upstairs in our hallway and while I love having the washer and dryer upstairs, it’s kind of an eye sore. We used to have closet doors there so I could just shut them and pretend they weren’t there. Then we got front loaders and I could no longer shut the doors. That’s where I had to get creative. I first found the curtains at IKEA but I couldn’t decide what kind of curtain rods I wanted especially since it was such a wide area.
Then, of course, I found something on Pinteres where you can use plumbing parts and conduit to make an inexpensive curtain rod. This is my kind of project for three reasons – they are cheap, sturdy and easy to assemble.
- galvanized floor flanges with 1/2 inch opening
- steel pipe thread (2 inches by 1/2 inches)
- 1/2 inch elbow pipe
- conduit piping (found in the electrical section)
- spray paint (optional)
- curtain ring clips (I found mine at Walmart)
Step 1: Gather your supplies. I want to note that I had Home Depot cut the conduit for me. This made is easier for me to fit it in my car and, of course, I didn’t have to deal with cutting anything myself which is always awesome.
Step 2: Spray paint the flanges and pipes. I chose to paint those silver so I didn’t have to paint the conduit.
Step 3: Pre-drill all your holes.
Step 4: Assemble everything together (don’t forget your curtain ring clips) and screw everything into the wall.
That’s it! Add your curtains to the clips and you are all done.
