First of all, raise your hand if you love caprese salad.  I mean – what’s not to love about any recipe that includes mozzarella cheese, tomato, basil, and balsamic vinegar.

Now, raise your hand if you love to snack on chips and salsa.  Well, what if you could turn your favorite salad into a delicious salsa?  That’s exactly what I did with today’s recipe and it’s delicious!

I really had no idea that I could combine two of my favorite things – chips and salsa and caprese salad until I made this delicious appetizer.  And, I’ll just tell you now, it will go fast so you might want to double this recipe.  Or, keep a bowl for yourself and share the rest with your guests.

Caprese Salsa Ingredients

This recipe calls for everything you would include in a caprese salad.  I used Roma tomatoes but feel free to use any tomatoes you have or whatever is on sale.  The key to a good caprese salad is using fresh mozzarella cheese that is made with Real California Milk.  And, of course, you need basil and balsamic vinegar.  These are the essentials for a delicious caprese recipe.

Look for the Real California Milk seal when looking for quality cheese products to include in recipes.  California dairy means real food from real people.  This is the only cheese I use when cooking especially when I’m making my favorite appetizers for all my favorite people.

How to make Caprese Salsa

The key to this recipe is cutting everything into bite sized pieces so that you can get a bite of tomato, mozzarella, and basil on every chip.  Just chop ingredients, add to a large bowl, and drizzle with balsamic vinegar and oil.  That’s all it takes to make this easy appetizer.

Why I love this salsa recipe

There are so many reason to love this salsa recipe.  First of all, it’s so easy to make. It only takes about 10 minutes to make.  If you’re a quick chopper, it might only take you 5 minutes.  I also think it’s the perfect dip for the holidays because of the red tomatoes and green basil.  The colors are perfect for Christmas.

I also think this dip tastes better if it’s made ahead of time to let the balsamic vinegar soak in for a little while.  Which means you can make it ahead of time before your guests arrive.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups chopped tomatoes about 8 Romas
  • 3/4 cup basil leaves minced
  • 4 ounces Real California fresh fresh mozzarella cheese chopped
  • 1/2 cup onion diced
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Combine tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, basil, and onion in large bowl.
  • Mix balsamic vinegar and olive oil in small bowl.  Drizzle over tomatoes, cheese, basil, and onion.  Stir to evenly coat.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Serve in small bowl with pita chips, tortilla chips, bread, or crackers.
