What is a Monogram?

A monogram is a design or logo using the initials of a person’s name. Monograms are often used for decorative purposes, such as on a glassware, towels, clothes, and more. The main features of a monogram include font style, order of initials, and size of the letters.

Types of Monograms

Single Letter Monogram

Single-letter monograms represent the last name for single and married couples. If you are monogramming a single letter onto a gift for someone, use the first letter of their first or last name.  For a couple, use the initial of their last name.

Two Letter Monogram

For individuals with no middle name, the monogram includes the first and last initial.  For couples, create monograms using both first initials.

Three Letter Monogram

Three letter monograms can be displayed two ways: monograms where letters are all the same size and monograms where the center initial is larger. If all the letters are the same size, initials are in the same order as your name: first, middle and last. If the monogram has a larger initial in the center, initials are ordered: first name, last name, and middle name. To create a traditional monogram for a couple, begin with her first name initial, followed by the married last name initial, and end with his first name initital.

What Can you Monogram?

You can monogram anything! You can monogram clothes, towels, mugs – pretty much everything in your house.  Use your Cricut to create monogrammed tote bags, wood signs, gifts and more!
