I have the cutest project to share with you all today! Don’t you just love when a project turns out better than you thought it would? That’s what happened with these Braided Twine Flower Pots.  I braided twine and glued it to a boring clay pot to make these fabulous succulent pots.

It’s Craft Lightning Week and the theme for this round is clay pots.  I was originally going to add gold leaf to the small flower pots but at the last minute I decided to try something different.  I was working with pink twine for another project and decided to see what it would look like if I braided it and wrapped it around the clay pot.

And, look at how stinkin’ cute they are!  It almost makes it look like a basket.  This is a quick 15 minute craft project because I used small clay pots for my succulents.  The clay pots that I used are only 3 inch pots but the pictures make them look a lot bigger.  If found a pack of 6 for $2.99 at my local craft store so I have three more pots to wrap in jute:)  It will obviously take longer if you use larger flower pots but it’s still worth the time and effort.  I’m definitely doing a bigger one to put out on my front porch.  I might even need one for my fireplace.

Supplies needed to make Braided Twine Flower Pots:

  • Twine and/or Jute
  • Clay Pots
  • Glue Gun
  • Glue Sticks

Step 1:  Glue at least three pieces of twine to clay pot (this will be the back of your flower pot).  Start braiding your twine.  As you braid, wrap around clay pot and glue every few inches.

Step 2:  Just keep braiding, wrapping, and gluing until you reach the top of the pot and the back where you started braiding.

Step 3:  Add a small succulent or other plant and step back to admire your gorgeous new flower pot.

I timed myself and it took 15 minutes and 28 seconds to make the Braided Jute Clay Pot and that was with my 2 1/2 year old trying to help me so this is a great Craft Lightning craft project.

Notes:

  • For the jute rope one, I glued three pieces of string to braid around the pot.  For the other colors I glue 6 and 8 strings to braid to make it wider.  You can play around with this and use as many pieces of string that you want.
  • Keep your string short.  The first pot I did I tried to use really long string and it kept getting tangled.  You can always glue the ends and restart in the back if you run out of string.
  • Start at the bottom and work your way up.  This gives it the basket look and keeps the braid from sliding down the pot.

What do you think?  Don’t you just love them?  I’m ready to start wrapping all my boring flower pots in braided twine!  My favorite is the white one but of course that was the hardest one to photograph.  I want to try making one using rainbow yarn next.  Doesn’t that sound fun?!
