This past weekend I finally finished organizing Connor’s closet and let me just tell you – this was definitely a labor of love!
Connor’s closet was a disaster! I’m so thankful for all the clothes that people have given me but I needed a better system for storing them. In the past I would just place them in plastic bins and pile them up in his closet. But that wasn’t working because I couldn’t see what clothes he had. When it came to time to switch out his clothes for the seasons, I would just dig through the bins, making a huge mess.
Something had to change because this system obviously wasn’t working. I knew I wanted something that we could take with us when we move since we are military and not living in our forever home so after looking around Pinterest for inspiration, I decided that using wooden crates would be the best solution. They are easy to move and I love the look of a wooden crate bookshelf. Plus, they fit perfectly in closets.
Here is a picture of his closet before. Disaster right?
Look how much better the wooden crates look!
First, I spray painted the inside of each crate red. Then I took every single thing out of the closet and placed 6 wooden crates inside along the bottom of the closet. You can’t see in the picture but there are two more to the left. 2 rows of 6 fit perfectly with extra space if I want to add another row.
And about 5 hours later…
This is how his closet looks now with the clothes sorted and folded neatly.
Look at what a difference that is. This is everything that I had in the bins but now it is organized by size and season. I hung up coats and collared shirts. His shoes are lined up on top of the crates. How awesome does this look now?
All I can say is – this is so much better! And when it’s time to move, we can take the crates with us and organize any closet.
Look at what a difference it makes to have nice, clean shelves in a closet instead of trying to use plastic bins. This is the perfect solution if you’re storing hand-me-downs in your child’s closet like I am.
So what are you waiting for?! Go buy some wooden crates and your favorite spray paint color because it’s time to organize your closets!!
