Peanut Butter Caramel Hot Chocolate

There is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa with my favorite blanket, a movie on Netflix, and a mug of hot chocolate.

In high school there was a coffee shop that my friends and I used to go to that served Peanut Butter Caramel Hot Chocolate.  They had a fancy name for it but now I can’t remember what it was.  All I know is that I was craving it recently and I had to make it myself.

It’s really easy to make and what’s great about this mix is – once it’s made, you’ll have plenty for the winter.  I like to make it for Christmas morning at my parents house so we can drink hot chocolate while opening our presents.

  • 4 cups nonfat dry milk powder
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup non-dairy powdered coffee creamer

To make hot chocolate:  Add 1/4 cup of cocoa mix to 8 ounces of milk in saucepan.  Heat on medium heat until peanut butter chips and caramel bits have melted.  I like to add a little more peanut butter chips and caramel bits to the saucepan just in case I didn’t get enough from the mix.

Hot Chocolate Mix in a Jar

And since the holidays are upon us, why not make a few jars to give as gifts.

Hot Chocolate Mix in a Jar - Gift Idea

Divide the hot cocoa recipe evenly into 4 mason jars.  After you’ve divided the recipe among the jars, fill the jars with extra caramel bits, peanut butter chips, and chocolate shavings – because you can’t have too much of that in the mix.

  1. Looks great! Is there a reason why you’re using nonfat and dairy free? Just wondering if I use full fat and dairy if it will mess things up. Thanks!

  2. I think the dry mixes only come as non fat, non dairy. I could be wrong but that’s all I found at my grocery store. I’m pretty sure you can use any dry milk powder and powdered coffee creamer.
