Grab some paint and dish detergent because it’s time to paint with with bubbles! Bubble painting is the perfect art project for kids and great for kids of all ages.

Want to know the best part of this fun craft project? It’s easy and you probably have all the supplies you need to paint with bubbles. Plus, you get a unique piece of art every time. Use different paint colors and create fun art in minutes.

Materials Needed for Bubble Painting:

  • plastic cups or small bowls
  • straws
  • paint (I used acrylic paint but I’m sure you can use washable paint)
  • liquid dish soap
  • water
  • cardstock

How to Bubble Paint

Add about 1 tablespoon of paint color, 2 tablespoons dish soap, and 2 tablespoons of water to each cup.  This doesn’t need to be exact. If your bubbles aren’t forming, just add more dish detergent and water to the cup and if your paint color isn’t bright enough, add a little more paint.

Place a straw in each cup and mix paint, dish detergent, and water together.

Start blowing bubbles into each cup of bubble solution.  Once the bubbles rise above the rim of the cup, lay your cardstock over the bubbles.  Then remove the paper and repeat with a different color paint.

Lay your paper flat on a table and let dry. It’s as simple as that!

Tips for Bubble Painting

  • If your bubbles aren’t coming up high enough in the cup, add an additional tablespoon of dish detergent and water to each cup and mix solution together.
  • Supervise young children and make sure children do not try to drink the bubble and paint solution.
  • I recommend using heavy cardstock for this project and not construction paper or white printer paper. You will want the paper to be thicker than regular paper to keep it from curling up.

Bubble Painted Notecards

There are so many fun bubble art projects you can make with your artwork once it dries. After our bubble paint dried, I thought it would be fun to create notecards with our bubble painted pictures.

To create notecards, create your notecards using a piece of colored cardstock. I wanted my notecards to be 5 x 7 so I cut my paper to 10 x 7 and folded it in half. Cut a heart or other shape from the center of the front of the card. Cut a rectangle from your bubble painting that is 4.5 x 6.5 and tape behind the shape cutout. I also created a framed card using my Cricut and added our bubble painting to the card. The best part about this is you can be creative as you want to be.

  2. these are so stinking cute!!!! I’ve been itching to do bubble painting but I am so nervous Dexter will just drink it. Maybe it will be something I just do with his sister for now haha

And I loved that you made them into cards! I wonder if I could get Lucy to sit still long enough to make 70 for Christmas 😉

Thanks so much for playing along with us this week!

  3. You could do these for Christmas cards for sure. Just start now and have her do 5 or 6 every week. Break it up, and it will be a piece of cake!
