I was recently shopping at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store and came across this gorgeous gold burlap that I had to have!

Ruffled Burlap Table Runner

In my mind I was picturing a gold table runner with ruffles and this is exactly what I made.  (You can’t really tell in the picture how gorgeous this burlap fabric is so you’ll have to trust me on this.)

Supplies needed:

  • 2 yards of gold burlap
  • red spray paint
  • orange spray paint (the color is called orange harvest)
  • red thread
  • orange thread
  • needle
  • glue gun and glue sticks

At first I thought I would make ruffles with ribbon but I wasn’t crazy about the way it was looking.  I wanted thicker ruffles.  Then it hit me – spray paint the burlap!

I cut the table runner to 15 inches wide and it is about an inch and a half shorter than my table.

Then I cut six strips of burlap.  Each strip measures 2.5 x 34 inches.

I spray painted 2 strips red, 2 orange, and kept 2 gold.

Now for the fun part – making ruffles.  The gold strips are easy to ruffle because all you have to do is pull the center thread carefully to create the ruffle.  I then trimmed the thread and glued it underneath with my glue gun.

To create ruffles with the red and orange strips, I needed to use a needle and thread to run a straight stitch down the center of each strip.  Then just pull the thread to create a ruffle.

Once I had all my ruffles, I was ready to attach them to the burlap.  I spaced them 6 inches apart and I used my handy-dandy glue gun to adhere them.

Then my gorgeous ruffled burlap table runner was ready to lay out on my table.

Have I inspired you to make a ruffled burlap table runner?  I promise it is an easy project!
