My Clean and Organized Refrigerator

Pinterest has inspired me again!
I desperately needed to clean and organize my refrigerator!
I found this pin on Pinterest and loved the idea of the baskets and then this pin inspired me to put a lazy susan in the refrigerator.  These people are so clever!!
I found the baskets at Walmart.  You can see if they have them at your local Walmart HERE.

After a full trash bag of old and expired food,  my refrigerator is all clean and organized.

I also made an easy cleaning solution to clean the inside of my refrigerator and freezer.

Just mix together 2 teaspoons lemon juice, 1/2 cup baking soda, and 4 cups warm water in a container and clean away.
Now, I desperately need to go grocery shopping:)
What has Pinterest inspired you to clean lately?

Brighten Someone’s Day with a Box of Sunshine

A few weeks ago my best friend from high school was having surgery and I wanted to send her a little something to cheer her up.  I live in Virginia and she lives in North Carolina so we don’t see each other very often.  I remembered seeing this box of sunshine by Happy Money Saver on Pinterest a few months ago and knew it was the perfect gift.

The mug is from Pier 1 and everything else I found at Target.  Connor and I had fun shopping for all yellow things.

I took the free printable Karrie offers on her site HERE and adhered it to a folded piece of cardstock to make a little card for the box of sunshine.

Definitely my new favorite gift to give!  This is sure to brighten someone’s day – probably there entire week!!

What creative gifts have you given lately?

Bang Bang Shrimp {Pinterest inspired recipe}

For this month’s Pinterest Challenge I finally decided to make Carrie with Children’s Bang Bang Shrimp recipe.

bang bang shrimp

My husband and I have never been to Bonefish Grill but we’ve heard how awesome their Bang Bang Shrimp is so I’ve been wanting to make this recipe for awhile now.

The only problem – I’ve never fried anything before and I was afraid I would totally ruin the recipe.

So I headed over to my neighbor’s house and asked my neighbor’s Charles and Janett to cook the shrimp for us.  Yep, that’s how it works on my fabulous street.  I have the best neighbors ever!!  Then we invited the other neighbors over to try this AWESOME shrimp.

Yes. when I say awesome, I mean AWESOME!  I would highly recommend making Bang Bang Shrimp.  I promise it will be a huge hit.  We (ok my neighbor because I’m still too nervous to fry anything)  also made chicken tenders and coated them with the same sauce.  And I think I might like that even better than the shrimp

Bang Bang Shrimp – recipe adapted from Carrie with Children

Ingredients:
  • 1lb peeled and deveined shrimp
  • Vegetable oil

For The Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2-3 Tablespoons honey
  • approx 1/4 Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (we use Kikkoman’s) adjust to taste.
  • 2-3 Tablespoons hot sauce

For The Shrimp Batter

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 2 Tablespoons garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of milk

For The Sauce

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2-3 Tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (we used Kikkoman’s like the original recipe called for)
  • 2-3 Tablespoons hot sauce
Instructions
  1. Mix ingredients for sauce and set aside.
  2. Mix egg and milk in one bowl and mix flour, corn starch, garlic powder, salt and pepper in another bowl.  Dredge shrimp in egg mixture and then dip in flour mixture.  Fry in oil until lightly golden.  (It should only take a few minutes to cook the shrimp).
  3. Remove shrimp and place on paper towel
  4. Place shrimp in bowl and pour a few tablespoons of sauce over shrimp.  Mix together until shrimp is evenly coated.  Add more sauce if needed.
  5. Enjoy!

Have you ever made or had Bang Bang Shrimp before? How did you like it?

Wedding Sheet Music Ornament

I’m so in love with this ornament!  We just celebrated our 10 year anniversary so when I saw sheet music ornaments from BHG on Pinterest, I knew I needed to make one with our wedding song.

And it was super easy to make.  I ordered my sheet music online and received a digital download right away.  Then I printed out the sheet music, cut it into strips, rolled each strip using a pencil, and placed it inside a clear ornament.

What a great keepsake ornament!!  It makes me smile every time I walk by it on the tree.
What is your favorite ornament on your tree this year?

DIY Chandelier Earrings {Inspired by Pinterest}

I saw these earrings on Pinterest and new I had to make them!

I already had all the supplies needed to make these earrings but you could easily buy all the supplies for around $12.   And you will have plenty of supplies left over to make a few gifts.  So make yourself a pair and a few for family and friends!

DIY Chandelier Earrings

And believe me when I say – if I can make them, so can you!!

So let’s make some chandelier earrings:

Start by gathering your supplies:
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Chain
  • 22 gauge wire
  • Beads of different shapes and sizes
  • Fishhook Earring findings
Step 1:  Cut your wire to 2 inches. 1 1/2 inches, and 1 1/4 inches
Step 2:  Add beads.  I added 9 beads to row 1, 7 beads to row 2, and 5 beads to row 3 and close each end using your jewelry pliers.
Step 3:  Add each row to the first 3 links of the chain.  Then curve each row a little.
Step 4:  Attach the opposite end of the chain to the earring findings.
Step 5:  Repeat to make your other earring and admire your beautiful new earrings!

I hope I’ve inspired you to make your own chandelier earrings.  Thanks for stopping by!

Pinterest Party – We Pinned It, Tried It and Loved It!

Since I’m totally obsessed with Pinterest I decided it was time to host a Pinterest party!!

I sent out an invitation that asked everyone to bring an appetizer, dessert, or cocktail inspired by Pinterest and bring a craft project that they want to complete from one of their boards.

Here are just a few of the pins we made:  (I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I had planned)

My friend Gina brought Crab Filled Crescent Wontons inspired by this pin.  I made these amazing Twix Brownies – DELICIOUS!!!  My friend Gloria saw brought these fun fruit cups – perfect for any party!!  And Gina also made Scarecrow Treats inspired by this pin!  These are so yummy and a huge hit.

My friend Dion and I were in the mood to make Halloween decorations so we made pumpkin bats and mummy jars.  We used plastic flower pots for the mummy and the fake pumpkins for the pumpkin bats.  Aren’t they cute?

My friend Janett made this fall wreath inspired by this pin.  Now we all want to make one.

We had so much fun getting our craft on!

If you and your friends are also addicted to Pinterest, I would highly recommend hosting a Pinterest party!!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Oh, how I love the Pinterest Challenge!!  I love how it motivates me to actually try stuff that I’ve pinned!

This month I decided to actually try making one of the many laundry detergent recipes I keep seeing all over Pinterest.  I decided to make this Laundry Detergent by The Frugal Girls.  There are a lot of detergent recipes on Pinterest but they are generally the same.  The only thing we did was add Oxiclean.

I got a few friends together and recruted them to make homemade laundry detergent with me.  It was an exciting Friday night for us! We went to dinner and then headed to Walmart to buy our supplies.

It was so simple!  We made 4 batches in about an hour.

Here is all you need make your own laundry detergent:

  • 1 bar of Ivory soap, Dove soap or 1/3 bar of Fels-Naptha soap.  We used Ivory soap.
  • 1/2 cup of Borax
  • 1/2 cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
  • 1/2 cup Oxiclean
  • a 5 gallon bucket
  • containers to store detergent in.  We found ours at Walmart for around $5.

Once you have all your supplies:

  • Grate your soap
  • Heat 6 cups of water on the stove and add grated soap.  Stir until melted.
  • Add 1/2 cup of Borax, 1/2 cup of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda, and 1/2 cup of Oxiclean to the same pot.  Mix together until everything is dissolved.
  • Fill the 5 gallon bucket with 1 Gallon + 10 Cups of water – All together you will make 2 gallons of laundry detergent.
  • Add soap mixture from stove to bucket and stir.
  • Pour into your container.
  • Let detergent sit over night so it will thicken and gel up.

Super easy to make!  And the best part is we all love it!

I definitely recommend making homemade laundry detergent.  I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks now and couldn’t be happier.  Plus, we still have plenty of ingredients left over to make more!
