Donut Birthday Cake

Yesterday my baby turned 6!

I still can’t believe that Connor is 6 years old.  Where have these years gone?

Last year I made him Birthday Waffles but this year I thought it would be fun to surprise Connor with a Donut Birthday Cake.

It was easy to put together and he loved it.  Purchase your favorite donuts and arrange them on a plate.  Then add candles and you are ready to serve your Donut Birthday Cake.

I just picked up a dozen glazed donuts at the grocery store.  Then I made some extra glaze icing using confectioners’ sugar and milk.  I dipped each donut in the glaze and then dipped it in the sprinkles.

So fun!

Connor thinks the birthday fairy came and delivered his birthday donut cake to him since they were on the table when he woke up.

This might just have to become a birthday tradition in our house.  What birthday traditions do you have?

Celebrating Birthdays with Hallmark Value Cards

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

I have to be honest with all of you today.  I’m not a good friend or family member when it comes to sending birthday cards.  So one of my goals this year is to change that!  I want to be better about sending out cards to family and friends.  Who doesn’t love getting a card in the mail?

So you have no idea how happy I was to discover the selection of Hallmark Value Birthday Cards at Walmart.  They are perfect and the selection of cards is amazing!  There are cards for everyone – birthday boy, birthday girl, mom, dad, humorous and so much more.

And the best part – you can get The Hallmark Value Cards for .49 and .97 cents at Walmart.  How fabulous is that?  I was able to stock up on birthday cards so now I have them ready for all our family’s upcoming birthdays.

And guess what?  Hallmark has a fun rewards program.  The Hallmark Card Rewards Program allows you to get rewarded for every 5 Hallmark cards you buy and it doesn’t matter where you buy them.  I found all these cards at my local Walmart and was able to add them quickly to my rewards account.

Just sign up for Hallmark Card Rewards. Then used the Hallmark Card Rewards App to scan the barcode on the back of the cards or you can enter the UPS code of each card on the website to start earning points.  So easy and fun!

I can’t wait to get the $5 Starbucks Gift Card.  I LOVE that I get rewarded for buying birthday cards – how awesome is that?

I am really impressed with the quality and selection of Hallmark Value Cards!  These are my three favorite that I bought.  And I’m super excited to have my birthday cards organized and ready.

Birthday Cake Waffles

Bring on the sugar rush!

Today is Connor’s birthday and I surprised him this morning with birthday cake waffles.

I can’t believe he is five!  I just want him to stay my little boy forever!!

Birthday Cake Waffles:

  • 1 cup Bisquick (I use the heart healthy Bisquick)
  • 1 cup cake mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Rainbow sprinkles

Mix ingredients until blended.  Pour batter onto lightly greased waffle iron. Bake 4-5 minutes.

I also made a glaze to drizzle over the waffles by mixing 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar and 3 teaspoons milk.

A fun birthday treat and tradition that everyone can enjoy!  What birthday traditions do you have?

Treasure Chest Gift Box

This was the easiest gift to put together and I just had to share it with all you.

Connor’s best friend loves all things related to pirates so when I found this awesome Pirate’s Treasure Box at Party City I thought it would be the perfect gift for him.

I just filled it with shredded paper, and chocolate gold coins.  Then I rolled up five $1 bills since he was turning 5.

There are a few other little toys under the paper but when you open up the box, it looks like treasure – a pirate’s dream!

Oh, how I love fun birthday presents!  Have you created a fun gift recently?

Balloon Birthday Wreath {Pinterest Challenge Project}

For this month’s Pinterest challenge, I finally completed a project I’d been admiring for almost a year. I first came across this pin on Pinterest last summer before I even started pinning things and immediately fell in love with it.

Birthdays are a big deal in our family.  In fact, we don’t have birth days, we have birth weeks!!  So I knew I had to make the balloon birthday wreath shared by How Does She.

I’m not gonna lie to you – this project was very time consuming.  Luckily I was able to convince my super fabulous friend Stephanie that she had to make one with me.  We sat down Saturday night with all our supplies and started working on our wreaths.
We used a wire wreath form and tied our balloons around the wire rings.  We also added pipe cleaners and ribbon.  If we were better prepared we would have had a bottle of wine and enough balloons to complete the project.
For some reason we thought we could make our wreath with fewer balloons than the inspiration piece.  Boy were we wrong!!  So Sunday morning we set out to buy even more balloons and a few hours later we finally finished out wreaths.  After 3 different trips to buy balloons and over 300 balloons, our project was complete .
Now that this beautiful wreath is complete, I will say it was worth the time and effort.
I can’t wait until our next birthday celebration so I can hang up my wreath.
And be prepared – if you invite me to a birthday party, I will be showing up with my birthday wreath to display somewhere at your house because I love it so much!
What has Pinterest inspired you to create lately?  Share it with us and you could win an awesome prize package.  Show it off HERE.

Football Cookie Cups

My husband is a HUGE New York Giants fan so Connor and I were excited to surprise him with these cookie cups last week for his birthday.

And now that the Giants are in the Superbowl, I will be making these again in 2 weeks!!  I wanted to post this earlier last week but was afraid I might jinx the Giants.  Good thing they pulled it off.

Here is how I made these fun treats:
I started by making chocolate chip cookies in a mini muffin pan.

While they were in the oven I made the little footballs:  I printed out a row of small footballs, placed the picture under the wax paper (you can’t really see it in the picture, but they are there), melted chocolate candy melts in a decorating bag, and  squeezed over the image to form football shapes.  Then I melted white candy melts to make the laces.

Once the cookies were cool, I iced them with my favorite buttercream icing recipe:

Mix 1 cup unsalted butter, 3 cups confectioners sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons milk until blended.

Then I dipped the iced cookies in green sugar sprinkles.

To make the cupcake/cookie toppers, I made, printed and cut out these images.  Then I cut out larger circles with red cardstock.  I taped the NY Giants image to the red circle with a toothpick in between.

If you would like a copy, please email me at happygolucky337@gmail.com

Top cookie bites with toppers and chocolate footballs.  Then enjoy these yummy treats!

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope everyone has a great week!!

Happy Birthday Placemat

Since I’ve been a little obsessed with subway art and I love laminating everything, I thought I would make a Happy Birthday Subway Art Placemat.

I wanted something special that we could use for birthday celebrations.  The birthday boy or girl (young and old) will feel special having their own placemat on their special day!  The placemat measures 11×17 and can be used over and over again.

Please print out the placemat HERE and have it laminated at your local office supply store.  Enjoy celebrating the next birthday with this special placemat!

UPDATE:  I’ve added new Happy Birthday placemats for you to download.  Go HERE to see all of them and download them for free.
