Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I’m so excited about today’s project and super fun blog hop I’m participating in! I’ve teamed up with a group of creative ladies and we’ve created a rainbow of crafts. Laura from Laura Kelly’s Inklings organized today’s event and I’m loving all the colorful projects!!
Laura assigned each of us a color and I got yellow. I struggled at first to create a project that was mostly yellow until I started cleaning out my guest room closet last week. I found that I had 5 of those picture boxes that were all different designs. At first I thought about spray painting them but then I decided that yellow fabric would be so much better.
I headed to Jo-Ann’s and got 10 fat quarters that were all yellow but different designs. All their fat quarters were 30% and then I used my 15% teacher discount. I had spray adhesive already so this project cost me about $10.
Step 1: Lay the box in the center of the fabric and trace around the box with a pencil. Then turn the box onto each side and trace around each side of the box. Add an inch to the end of each of the sides.
Step 2: Cut the longer sides along the line that you’ve drawn.
Step 3: Add about an inch to the sides of the smaller sides of the box.
Step 4: Spray fabric and box with the spray adhesive. Wait 2-3 minutes. Place box in center of fabric. Flip over and make sure the fabric is smoothed out. Then flip back over.
Step 5: Bring the fabric on the shorter sides up and wrap around the edge of box. Smooth out the fabric. Repeat for other 3 sides of box.
Step 6. Use a paint brush and brush on a small amount of mod podge along the outside corners to keep fabric edges from fraying.
Now that your box is covered, you’re ready to cover the lid.
I also added some chalkboard labels to each box that I found in the dollar section at Michael’s. So bright and cheery!! I’m so happy with how my new boxes look and they were so easy to do. Another easy craft project.
Now check out the rainbow we’ve created today and be inspired to create something colorful.
