Beach Alphabet Subway Art

I recently bought this adorable shower curtain and bath set to decorate Connor's bathroom so of course I needed some coordinating art work.

I decided to create beach subway art that also highlighted the letters of the alphabet.  I've become a little obsessed with Subway Art:)
At first I tried to find beach related words that started with each letter of the alphabet but I couldn't finds words for some of the letters.

So I just found words that had those letters and changed the colors so the letters stand out.  It was actually a little challenging which made it more fun.  I love the way it turned out!!

Meet Jessi from Practically Functional

Hi there! I'm Jessi, and I blog over at Practically Functional, a blog about a little bit of everything in a practical attempt at Domestic Goddessery!
I want to start by saying a huge thank you to Kara! I love Happy Go Lucky and I'm excited for the chance to hang out with you guys today and introduce myself!

I got married about six months ago to my wonderful husband JonMarke, so now I'm learning (trial-by-fire style) how different married-life-with-two-cats is from single-living-in-a-college-dorm. Hint, it's very different, but I'm really enjoying it!

I am finding that I enjoy a lot of domestic things much more than I used to. I like to cook and I've recently rediscovered my love of crafting. I love to organize everything: our home, our finances, our day-to-day lives. I love anything and everything DIY. I'm clearly no expert at any of this, but I'm organized, practical, slightly domestic, and super optimistic, so I've got a good feeling about it. :-)

I started this blog in February of 2012 to share some of my experiences with all of my eclectic interests, and also to help me de-stress from my full-time IT job. I love crafting etc. and then blogging about it; it's fun and it relieves stress, and hopefully inspire others in the process!

If you want to get a feel for the local color at Practically Functional, here are a few of my favorite posts to get you started.

DIY: Make Your Own Chalkboard Paint

With just two ingredients you can make your own chalkboard paint in any color! I was excited to find this out because it isn't the cheapest paint to buy. I painted the lids of a few jars in our kitchen so that we could label them (and re-label them, if needed!)

Bacon-Wrapped Dates

These are my FAVORITE appetizers of all time! They are so delicious and easy to make. My husband almost got punched by a friend of our back in college for stealing the last one of these off the plate, no joke! :-)

DIY: Relaxing Detox Bath Recipe

My job is a bit stressful sometimes, so every once in a while I love to de-stress, relax, and just chill out with this simple detox bath.  I guess everyone else likes to relax as well, because this has been my most popular post so far!

I also have a couple of fun series going on right now. One huge change in "becoming an adult" was learning to be responsible for my own finances, present and future. So I'm sharing 10 Important Financial Lessons To Learn While You're Young every Friday. Even if you're not just out of college they can still be helpful! :-)

I also just started an indoor herb garden in our kitchen, and it's doing pretty well. I'm sharing tips and tricks in a series starting with my post about Starting An Indoor Herb Garden. If your thumb is a little more black than green, check it out!

I hope you enjoyed this intro, and thanks again to Kara for having me as a guest! I'm going to keep crafting, cooking, organizing (the list goes on and on) over at Practically Functional and I'd love for you to join me!
Thank you Jessi for being my guest today!!  Your blog is fabulous!

InstaFriday

Happy Friday!
My favorite picture from this week is this picture of Connor:
I came downstairs to find Connor stacking items from the refrigerator like blocks.  You would think the child doesn't have any toys to play with:)

Connor playing outside, my awesome new earring holders from The Covered Porch (Thank you Jenn - You Rock!!), A new canvas I'm working on, a Starbucks date with my little man

Connor watching a DVD, hanging out at the oceanfront, turtles we saw at the park, Connor checkin' out the scenery

I hope everyone has a FANTASTIC and relaxing weekend!
I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow!!  It's been a rough week.  I was definitely spoiled by spring break.

Upcycled Craft Ideas

There are so many creative ways to upcycle things that we throw away on a daily basis.   I thought it would be fun to celebrate Earth Day with a round up of craft projects made from items that would most likely end up in the trash.
Check out these fabulous upcycled craft ideas I found and make sure you link up your upcycled projects at the end.

Coasters from magazine pages by Saved by Love Creations

Change purses from plastic bottles created by Zitta Schnitt.  These are the cutest things ever!!

 Earrings from aluminum cans
Left: Crafty Soccer Mom, Right: Beading Gem

Use an oatmeal box as a ribbon holder shared by Modhomeecteacher on Curbly

Use soup cans to get organized.  HGTV shares this fun way to reuse soup cans.  I would also have to paint the cans.

Notebooks from cereal boxes created by Making Memories

Pencil cases from a cereal box by Quiver Full of Blessings.  She even shares a printable template.

Wine Bottle Tiki Torches created Gerardot & Co.

Create bangles from plastic bags.  These beauties are handmade by Garbage of Eden.
Gooseflesh teaches you how to make yarn from plastic bags so you can make all kinds of things.

I love saving coffee cans to use for craft projects.  Last summer Connor and I had fun making this bird feeder from a coffee can.   Just cut the lid in half and glue one to each side of the coffee can.  Then we painted it.  Very easy which means it is my kind of project!!

Now it's your turn again.  Link up all of your upcycled craft projects.  We want to be inspired by you!!
