Our Week in Instagrams

Happy Saturday everyone!
My favorite pic from this week is the four-leaf clover that Connor found in our front yard!!  I'm not sure he even knew what it was.  I told him to look for a four-leaf clover and he went over and picked it right up.  It was pretty amazing even though it didn't help us win the mega millions last night:)

Braided Ribbon and Chain Necklace

I was thrilled to be a creative guest on Ucreate a few months ago where I shared my Braided Ribbon and Chain Necklace.  Then, today, I was looking through my drafts and realized I never shared it here.  So I realized it would be fun to recap and share with all of you - just in case you missed it.
Doesn't that look easy?  I'm going to be honest, the hardest part about this necklace is deciding which fabric flower to add.

This is all you need:ribbon, chain, fabric swatch, needle and thread, pliers, and scissors

The first thing you need to do is decide how long you want your necklace to be.  It needs to be long enough to slide over your head.  I made my finished necklace 30 inches so I used chain that was 32 inches and cut the ribbon around 64 inches.  You can make it any length you want it to be, just remember the braid causes the finished necklace to be shorter than what you start with.

To start making your necklace, pull one end of the ribbon through the first link of your chain.   Keep pulling until you have an equal amount of ribbon on each side of the chain.

Now that you have your three strings, you are ready to start braiding.  You can make it as tight or loose as you want.  Keep braiding until you get to the end of the chain.

Once you come to the end of the chain, thread one piece of ribbon through the last link and tie the two ends of the ribbon to form a tight knot.  This will keep the braid from coming undone.  Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect.  We will cover it up with the fabric flower.

Use the pliers to attach each end of the chain together.
And our necklace is finished!

Now we are ready to add the fabric flower.
This is the hard part because there are so many great ways to make fabric flowers.

I made this flower by cutting12 circles from a lightweight rayon fabric.  I stacked all but 5 of the circles on top of one another a little off center.  Then I took the last 5 circles, folded each one in half twice and layered those on top of the flat circles.  I used my needle and thread to stitch it all together.  Twist the folded circles around, fluff it up, and you have a great looking fabric flower!

Using the same needle and thread, attach the flower to the ribbon where the two ends were tied together.

Finally, show off your fabulous new necklace that you made and enjoy all the compliments you get!!

How simple is that?  So easy that you will have time to make one for yourself and to give as a fabulous gift.  You can make them in different colors, use various widths of ribbon and fun, funky fabric flowers.  I think a pretty fabric rosette would be really pretty.  The possibilities are endless.

I hope you have fun making your own Braided Ribbon and Chain Necklace with your favorite fabric flower.

Meet Kelly from Miss Information

Hey Ya’ll! (OK I really don’t talk that way but figured you would expect it from a southerner)

I’m Kelley Wilson from Lilburn, Ga., located NE of Atlanta. I have been married to my hubby Chris for 11 years. We have 2 boys Garrett 8, and Matthew 3, a dog named Chili and a turtle named Bumblebee.
Kara I am so humbled you asked me to guest post and can’t thank you enough.
It is my first time so I am very, VERY excited!
My first attempt at blogging was in 2010, it was called Sensory Fix read more about that here. Hubby was ill and we were informed he would need a kidney transplant, read more about that here (it's actually a very inspirational story).  Needless to say with all that going on the blog dropped to the wayside.

Tuesday's Tips #3

It's time for more fabulous tips that I've found recently that made me think "why didn't I think of that?"
This one definitely made me think "why didn't I think of that?"  Store your camera in a travel soap box!  I can't believe I never thought of this!!  My camera is all scratched up from being in my purse.

Dust blinds and baseboards with used dryer sheets - YES I said used!

Who knew there was a right way to softening butter in the microwave instead of having it melt all over the place

Or that marshmallows help keep brown sugar soft

I love sharing these clever tips with you and I would love for you to share some with me.  What have you found lately that had you thinking "why didn't I think of that?" Check out more tips I've pinned to my Tips and Tricks Pinterest Board.

InstaFriday

Oh, how I've missed InstaFriday!  I used to participate all the time but then things got crazy and I found that I wasn't taking very many pictures on my phone.  But I love instagram so I'm going to start taking more pics with my phone.  You would think that I had tons of pics since I don't go anywhere without my phone.

Our week in Instagrams:

  • The weather was gorgeous all week so we've been playing outside and going to the park in our neighborhood.
  • Connor loves his superheros.  He doesn't leave the house without them
  • Connor loves piggyback rides!
  • Carousel at the mall

  • Playing Candyland with superhero figures
  • Enjoying margaritas with the hubby- it's been one of those weeks
  • A pretzel picnic
  • My new favorite find - DIY gel nail polish and you don't need a UV light (I found it at Walgreens)
I hope everyone has a fun, fabulous, and relaxing weekend!!
