Santa Planter

This is my last minute hostess gift for all the people we will be visiting this week while we are home in Maryland. I saw this in a magazine recently so I can't take any credit for coming up with this idea.
I've been saving my Folgers coffee cans, waiting for the perfect craft project.  So when I saw this idea in the magazine, I was so happy!!  The directions in the magazine said to paint coffee cans red but I used Folgers coffee cans that are already red.

I headed to my local thrift store to look for cheap black belts.  I found belts there for 25 cents.  I was able to get 5 for less than $2.  How fabulous is that?

The plants are from Home Depot.  Just glue the belt on with your handy dandy glue gun. I cut my belt in the back so it would fit the coffee can. Then replant your plant in the coffee can adding a little potting soil.

A fun hostess gift, teacher gift or to just keep for yourself!  The best part is they are quick and easy to put together.

Inspired by Family continues to amaze us with her great ideas.  This week she wowed us with ideas for a kids Christmas party with treats and games.
Sarah over at Crafting and Creativity shared a car survival kit for moms.  What a fantastic gift idea!
And how cute is this handprint ornament Good Girl Gone Green made and shared?  I haven't tried making salt dough yet but I just might have to try it out.
My favorite this week is a quick and easy craft project shared by Cameron Homemade.   I love these Canvas Photo Ornaments.  I'm definitely going to be making these!

Easy Way to Display Photos with Santa

As I opened our boxes of Christmas decorations last week, I was so happy when I found the three pictures of Connor sitting on Santa’s lap.  It was so fun to see how he has changed through the years!

I just had to find a way to display these adorable pictures!
I knew I wanted an easy frame that I could add pictures to each year and I wanted it to look like a college of pictures so I decided to make a clothesline frame.  I've seen these frames on Pinterest and love them.  But instead of having the string go across in rows that are evenly spaced, I thought it would be fun to be a little different.  So I made my rows by randomly having them zig zag back and forth.
Here is what you will need to make your own photo display:
  • 1 frame - I found mine at a thrift store for $4.98
  • Paint
  • Glaze (optional)
  • Thumbtacks
  • Jute or string
  • Mini clothespins
To make your frame:
Step 1:  Paint the frame - I started by painting the frame red. Then I glazed it using black glaze I already had.

Step 2:  Turn the frame over and push your push pins in halfway – I placed mine 2 inches apart.  I started two inches down from the opening on one side and then started 2 inches down on the other side because I didn't want my rows to line up perfectly.
Step 3:  Start by tying the jute to the first thumbtack.  Wrap your string around the thumbtacks randomly going across.  Tie the string to last thumbtack.  Use a hammer to push the thumbtacks all them way into the frame.  This should keep the rope more secure.

Step 4:  Attach your pictures using the clothespin.

    Step 5:  Admire your masterpiece!!

Can it really get any easier than this?
I really love how it turned out and I especially love displaying these special photos.  I have to admit that this is probably one of my favorite projects I've done.  I love the rustic feel of the frame with the jute rope.

Don't you just love when a project turns out exactly as you envisioned it in your head?

Make Your Own Gingerbread House Kit

Yesterday I shared an easy way to put together Gingerbread House Kits on Lauren's blog Happily Mother After.  She has a great 12 Crafty Days of Christmas going on right now.  You have to check it out!!
    Happily Mother After
These gingerbread house kits are quick and easy to put together.  It doesn't get any easier than this - I promise!
All you need are the following:
    1 bucket
    1 container of icing
Candy (I bought 3 different kinds and split them into 2 buckets)
1 package of Graham crackers (1 of 3 from box)
All of these items were found at the Dollar Tree except the Graham crackers.

Place everything in the bucket, close the lid and have fun giving this gift to that child who already has everything.

I can't believe I was buying those store kits when I could make my own for half the price!  These simple gingerbread house kits are easy to put together and cost less than $10 to make two.

I made one for Connor and I made one for my nephew.  I can't wait to give them their kits this weekend and make gingerbread houses with them!   I think they are going to be a big hit!!  I plan on using the lid to the bucket as the base for their houses.

I hope you all have fun making your gingerbread houses!

    Your Time To Shine!

    Welcome to Shine on Friday!
Last week’s party was fabulous!! We are loving all the wonderful projects and ideas everyone is sharing.  Thanks for inspiring us!

Last week’s most popular links were:
A collection of DIY ornaments shared by Inspired by Family.  I can’t decide which one I want to make first.
The Craft in Me showed us a great way to add some much needed sparkle to our front doors. I really love this idea and I think Connor will love this too!
Life with the Hawleys shows us why she loves vintage hair pins and how well they work.

Looking for Christmas printables?  Erin over at Making Memories shares a few of her favorites.

This week I'm going to have to show off two favorites because it was so hard to pick just one.
The first one is this amazing Frosty the Snowman shared by Randee's Organized Chaos!  Isn't it just adorable?  I've pinned it and I can't wait to make one.

And the other one is for Connor.  Making Memories showed us her glow in the dark bath. I’m seriously going to be doing this with Connor this weekend.  I already have the glow sticks!

Don't forget to grab a button if I featured you.  Head on over and visit Amy at One Artsy Mama to see which links she featured this week.
