Meet Kelli from The Inspired Collection

Hello fellow readers and bloggers! My name is Kelli and I am the creator of The Inspired Collection. I am so excited to be guest posting today at Happy Go Lucky and excited to have the opportunity to share a little about myself and The Inspired Collection!

I am a newlywed, and first time home owner, who recently entered the bloggy world in July of 2011. I decided to start The Inspired Collection to share our journey of creating our standard new construction home into our own personal oasis, and it has turned into so much more. I love sharing my inspirations, crafts, and have really enjoyed sharing all of our fun and yummy recipes. I have had so much fun connecting with other bloggers and readers and have enjoyed sharing my creations, as well as reading and learning about everyone else's creativity.
(me and the hubs)

I hope that you can find the time today to stop on over and give a shout out to Kara, as well as check out some of our posts. Here's a sneak peek of what The Inspired Collection has to offer and maybe even grab one of our buttons!

This has been one of my favorite recipes, Dessert Kabobs, a simple and yummy treat!

Here is a peak at my very first furniture remodel. I gave this hutch a new life, from drab to fab!

And of course, our kick off post featured Our DIY Wedding. Since our wedding in June we have attended 4 more weddings and I featured all of them and their creativity in each of their own posts.

Santa Handprint Ornament

First of all I  L*O*V*E  any craft that requires Connor’s handprint and I also love adding personalized ornaments to our Christmas tree every year.  So as soon as I saw this Santa Handprint Ornament on Pinterest I immediately added it to my Future Projects board and I knew I had to make it this year!
How many of you pinned this adorable ornament also?

Isn’t it the cutest thing ever? I am so happy with how it turned out and I love that it is such a special keepsake! They weren’t that hard to make at all. We used the clay that you bake in the oven, red paint for the hat, nose, and rosy cheeks, tan paint for the face, and a black sharpie for the lines.

And I think I now have a new tradition each Thanksgiving Eve: An ornament craft night. My friend Cindy came over Wednesday night with her two boys and we had so much fun making ornaments together. I do have to say that we did most of the work since our boys are only three and two but it was definitely worth the time it took to hand paint each ornament.

Next year we will definitely have ornaments that the kids can make themselves. But for now we have these adorable Santa handprint ornaments to hang on our tree that we will treasure for many years to come.

These ornaments truly mark a moment in time and to me that is the best thing a personalized ornament can do.

Have you met Rachel from Family Ever After?

Hello friends of Happy Go Lucky! I'm Rach H, blogging over at Family Ever After, and I'm really excited to be blog swapping with Kara today!

I'm just a girl from South Dakota who likes to take pictures, clog dance, run, cook, design, sew, and craft, especially with my 3 kids! Here are a couple things I've recently blogged about. If you have a second to come visit, that would be fantastic!

when i should be cleaning my kitchen... sometimes i get carried away

i really never thought i'd be like my mom and make my own wreaths...
but here i am! ha!

hello bonjour, who isn't obsessed with frenchy things these days?
i lived in paris during a semester of college. here's my little shrine. c'etait la vie...

I designed this Corpse Bride costume for my daughter this Halloween.

i majored in home ec during college. yup.
i made this little baby graduation cap and gown in between class periods while i was a middle school sewing teacher!

you know you're crazy when you bring your sewing machine to a hotel and make dresses for your children the night before your hubbie's graduation!

Sometimes I have embarrassing ideas, and live to blog about them.

i like to decorate on the cheap.

I recently made this for my favorite season.

i don't come up with many of my own recipes, but there are a handful of keepers.
my healthy waffles are pretty tasty!

sometimes i just throw things together and call it "good enough."
as long as they taste good, that's what counts!

i'm a novice gardener, learning as i go. we had a crazy crop of tomatoes this summer, which gave me lots of room for experimenting in the kitchen.

did i mention i really love crafting with my kids?

here are a few of my favorite things...

sunflowers! especially from a field in south dakota!
pretending i know how to take pictures!
wide open spaces.
(ok, so there's a fence here. but i really long to live in the great wide open. check my pinterest dream home board to see what i mean).

Basically, my blog is a big mishmash of my favorite things, mostly crafts, and I try to keep it lighthearted and fun. I love to post tips and tutorials and recipes and crafts.

Thanks for reading!
The end.

Oh my gosh!  Isn't she fabulous?!  Thanks Rach for sharing.

Easy Candle Upcycle

How many of you have candles that look like this?
I have an entire shelf of them hidden behind picture frames!

So in an effort to declutter and get a little things organized before we decorate for the holidays I decided to take these ugly things and make brand new layered candles.
This was such an easy project to do.  I can't believe I never did this before.
All I needed to get were these wicks from Michael's and one new glass container.  I decided to get a new glass container because it was only $1 and I needed something clean to pour the first candle in.  Then you can start cleaning out the old ones and reusing those glass jars.

Step 1:  Melt your first candle down completely.  I put mine in a pot of boiling water.  It only took about 5 minutes for the candle to turn to liquid.

Step 2:  Place the new candle wick in your clean jar.  I wrapped it around a popsicle stick so it wouldn't fall over.

Step 3:  Pour melted wax into new jar.  Let cool completely.
Step 4:  Once the first layer of wax was completely hard, I melted the next candle down on the stove and poured it over the first layer.  Repeat with one more layer or until your glass container is full.
Step 5:  Cut the wick.  Burn and enjoy your new candle!!

I tried to combined scents that complimented each other.  One candle has a layer of sparkling vanilla, apple spice and toasted cinnamon spice.  The other one combined my summer scents:  caribbean salsa, strawberry shortcake ad island colada.

Now I'm off to steal I mean collect old candles from my neighbors so I can make more!!

Did I mention how nice your house will smell from melting the wax on the stove?  I hope you have fun creating your own upcycled, layered candles.
