Important Dates

As soon as I came across this adorable pin on Pinterest, I knew I had to make one.  I just think it is such a cute way to show off family birth dates and highlight our wedding anniversary.

And since I don't have a cricut or silhouette, I had to figure out an easy way to make it.  I first thought I could use number stickers I had in my scrapbooking supplies, but then realized I'm not very good at lining things up in a straight and even way.  I tried to use them but every little mistake was driving me crazy.  Those darn 9's were really hard to line up.

So I bought a piece of scrapbook paper that I liked.  I scanned it, saved it as a picture and used PowerPoint to type in the dates.  You could also use Picnik to make it.
Here are the easy directions to make your own Important Dates print:
  • Open a PowerPoint presentation and set the Page Setup to width: 8 inches and Height 10 inches.  I made it as an 8 x 10 but trimmed the edges so the final image framed is 8 x 8.
  • Then I created a different text box for each number.  I played around with the font and size I liked.
  • Here's the fun part:)  Use the ordering function to distribute each number evenly.  Once you've added each line of numbers. select each line and distribute them vertically (This is the time consuming part if you are a perfectionist like me).
  • Once everything looked good, I saved it as a JPEG file and printed it out on photo paper.
For those of you wondering where the fourth date came from, my husband asked me to include our dog since he is technically our first baby.

I really love the way it turned out and can't wait to make some as gifts for family and friends.

What are some other easy personalized gift ideas you've made recently?  Please share!!

Felt Roses Picture Frame

How many of you see something you love while you're out shopping and get home and decide you have to try and make it yourself?

This happens to me a lot and I hope I'm not the only one.
So, I was recently at Pier 1 looking at their candles (because I love their candles) and came across this sweet felt rose picture frame.  I didn't really put much thought into the frame because I was too focused on candles but when I got home I started thinking more about how cute it was.  Then it dawned on me, "I think I can make it myself!"

I headed to Michael's to get a cheap wood frame and some sheets of felt.  My total was less than $5.  The only other materials I needed were scissors and my handy dandy glue gun.

I started by figuring out how to make the felt roses.
I cut the felt into 1 inch strips.
Then I cut each strip into 4 equal pieces.
Then I folded each piece in half and used my scissors to round the edges.
I did this a lot!!
This is where you find a good movie to watch.  Just keep cutting.
Once all your pieces are cut, it's time to plug in the glue gun.  I took each piece and glued the ends together.
Then I glued two pieces together to form the rose.
Once I had a nice pile of roses, I started gluing them in rows to the frame.
I just kept adding rows of roses until the entire frame was covered.

I have to admit that this project turned out pretty darn cute for about a fifth of the price!  It is a little time consuming but definitely worth it.  I kind of wish I would have used pink felt so I could have given to my precious niece.  I guess I'll be going to back to Michael's soon to make another one:)

So what do you think?

What have you seen recently at a store that you just had to make yourself?

My Loves

This week's challenge for InstaFriday was to take a picture of something that you love.

One thing that I'm lovin' this week is that my husband is home!!!  He has been gone for 6 weeks and came home today!
Connor was beyond thrilled to see him!
It was the cutest, most sweetest thing ever!!
Now Connor will not let my husband out of his sight.

I love watching Connor's personality form right in front my eyes.  He is quite the comedian.  I love how silly he is and how he is always making other people laugh.
He is so much like my husband.  It's a little scary.
I also love our snuggle time right after I give him his bath.  It is the highlight of my day!  It reminds me to stop and enjoy these precious times because he is growing up so fast.

Now for a few of the things I love:
I love the Salted Caramel Mocha from Starbucks.
I love my camera strap that my mom made me for my new camera.  I would also like to add that I have the best mom in the WORLD!!
And I love sunflowers.  They've always been my favorite so when I see them they just make me so happy!!

It's been a GREAT week.  I hope yours has been good also.
What are you loving this week?

InstaFriday

I had a great first week of school and enjoyed meeting all my new 6th grade students but I'm exhausted!

I'm so glad it's Friday and I'm so excited to show off a few pictures from the week.
Connor wanted me to take a picture of the flag because it reminds him of his daddy.  I thought that was such a sweet request and so smart of him to connect the flag and the Navy.

Our sweet boy is always so happy!!

I love this picture!!  He is just talking away to his daddy about his day and what toys he wants him to bring home when he comes back next week.  And since my husband hates being away, I have a feeling Connor will be getting a few presents very soon:)

The Rockstar!!  Rocky gets neglected here on Happy Go Lucky.  I do have to admit that I love having him around when my husband is gone.  It is also cute when Connor tells everyone his best friend is Rocky.

I love this picture!!  So calming and relaxing!

And a beautiful ladybug to end with!
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend spending time with family and friends.
