Body Scrub Baby Shower Favor

Have I told you all that I love making shower favors?  I love coming up with fun and practical shower favors so when my friend told me she was hosting a baby shower this weekend, I had to help her make them.

I’ve loved seeing all the homemade beauty products throughout blogland so I immediately told her we had to make body scrub.

After looking around at different recipes online, we actually ended up keeping it very simple.  There really are so many to choose from but we needed to keep it cheap and easy.

After mixing up a few sample batches using different ingredients, this is what we came up with:

  • 2 cups epson salt
  • 3 tablespoons baby oil
  • 8-10 drops of essential oil – We used tropical from Michaels and it smells so good!
  • Jars
  • Food coloring (optional)

  • Mix everything together in a bowl and fill the jars.  Quick and easy!!
  • We added blue food coloring because her friend is having a boy (I’m sure you guessed that).

We wanted a cute poem to go along with the body scrub that reminded the mother-to-be and guests to pamper themselves.  This is what I came up with:

We cut out the tags and placed them between the lid and metal screw band of the canning jars.  We also added simple direction labels to the bottom of the jars that said:
Tropical Body Scrub
To use:  Apply to wet skin.  Rub and rinse
Leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth!
We are so pleased with the way they turned out.  We’ve tested them out and they really work!!  My skin feels so soft and the tropical scent smells so good.

If you need a quick, easy and inexpensive shower favor and/or gift idea, you have to make this body scrub.  We got all of our supplies at Walmart and Michaels for less than $20.

  27. Hi – I didn’t see an answer to some of the questions – how many jars did it fill and did the blue tint color your skin?

Your idea is so fantastic!! I am throwing my sister her baby sprinkle (first one was a girl now she’s having a boy!) and this is the perfect thank you gift!! The color looks fantastic, too! Would you happen to remember what food coloring you used? Or if it was just a regular blue? I am sure I can figure it out when I go to the stores but I just loved your color!!
    Thank you for sharing!!

  29. Adorable idea. Will definitely be making this for my daughters shower. How many mason jars does your recipe fill?

    • I made them a few hours ago actually! It really depends on how high to the top you are filling them but in general it makes around 5 or 5.5 of the 4oz canning jars!

  30. hi just curious how can I make or print my own round tags such as this one with different wording and for the size to fit my jars? help!! not really sure…. Thanks, Cathy.

  31. Does it taint your skin???

  32. I just tried this with blue and green food colouring. No it doesn’t stain your skin or the bath, as you don’t use much food colouring (a little goes a long way). I found my mix a bit too oily when I tried it out in the shower so I am going to try it again with half baby oil and half coconut oil (as I have seen coconut oil recipes) and a bit of sugar and sea salt to try and perfect the consistency. I think because it is blue, I am going to use peppermint with maybe a touch of lavender to scent it.

  33. Curious about the instruction labels for the bottom. Did you get them printed on sticker paper? How did you attach them to the jars?
